Your Seasonal Hot Tub To-Do List

Your Seasonal Hot Tub To-Do List

As a hot tub owner, you likely already know the basics: sanitize with chlorine after each use, balance your water weekly, etc. If you’re new to the hot tub life, check out our chemicals blog or this simple chemical guide for straightforward tips to get started.

As the seasons change, your hot tub needs a little extra care to ensure it stays in peak condition. Here’s what you need to do seasonally, or every 3-4 months, to keep your hot tub sparkling and ready for relaxation.

1.     Spa Flush & Change Your Water
Draining and refilling your hot tub is essential to keep it clean and maintain water quality. Right before you drain, add Spa Flush to remove biofilm build-up from your hot tub’s plumbing/jets. This keeps your water clear, reduces sanitizer use, and minimizes calcium build-up!

Winter Tip : Start and refill your hot tub before freezing temperatures arrive. This prevents freezing as water enters the pipes (which can disrupt water flow and crack your pipes) and avoids error messages that might stop the heater from operating.

2.     Replace Your Filter
Even with regular cleaning, hot tub filters lose efficiency over time. Replace your filter according to its replacement schedule to ensure optimal water circulation and filtration.

3.     Swap Out Your Spa Ball
If you use a spa ball to absorb oils and debris, it’s time for a fresh one! Replace it seasonally to keep your water clear and reduce strain on your filtration system.

4.     Check Your Ozone Generator
Your ozone system helps keep your water clean by breaking down contaminants. Make sure the LED indicator light is on during the filter cycle to confirm that it’s functioning properly. If not, it might be time for maintenance or replacement.

5.     Inspect Your Cover
Seasonal wear and tear can affect your hot tub cover’s ability to retain heat. Check for cracks, waterlogging, or damage, and replace it if necessary to keep your spa energy efficient.

6.     Deep Clean Your Cabinet and Steps
Wipe down your hot tub cabinet and steps with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner to remove dirt and grime. Seasonal cleaning prevents buildup and keeps your spa looking like new!

7.     Winter Prep
Prepare your hot tub for winter before the cold sets in. If you plan to keep your spa running, ensure the water level is stable, the snow is off your cover, and the cover is secure. For long vacations or a complete shutdown, consider winterizing your spa to avoid frozen pipes and costly repairs. Let us handle that with our winterization service so you can stay cozy and relaxed!
